Revenge of the paperback

The Om-ster notes that Boeing’s "broadband in the sky" has died from lack of interest. Shame. I reckon the bigger question for all you jet-setters is whether you will be able to use a laptop at all in the future.
The British bomb scare means that there’s a strong possibility we Aussies will eventually join the clear plastic bag crowd. Ironically, it’s good news for those of us in the dead tree business.

yeah I smell a rat there actually MJ. You dead tree guys rant and rave about terrorists and then… oh look!… won’t surprise me if you get ALL technology banned just to save your own skins…

The plastic bags were only for a day or two and has already been lifted. You are currently allowed one item of hand luggage when boarding from a UK airport. Only one – a ladies’ handbag can only be taken on board if it can be stowed inside the main item of hand luggage.

After the “exploding batteries” stories, I think it should be mandatory that laptops be carried as hand luggage- that way if they do “go up” you can extinguish them. Bit hard to put them out in the hold…!!

I think I can survive a longhaul flight without my laptop, but do I trust the airlines and airport personnel to ensure it doesn’t get damaged in the process. Hell no.
